Frequently Asked Questions

As we receive questions about the applications, we will be sure to update them here.

What is the deadline to apply?
Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis through Sunday, June 28.
What do you mean by “public programming”?
Public programming is any program that is open and accessible to members of the public. It may have an admission fee, but must not be limited to members of a specific group or have an excessive cost associated. This includes passive programs, such as an exhibition or interpretive signage that is accessible to members of the public.
Does this stipend need to be applied directly to an already-planned event?
This stipend can be applied to programs that have already been held or that will be held at a future date. It does not need to go towards an already-planned event. However, when your programming is planned and ready to be marketed, we request that you publicize via 250inCT.com as part of your marketing efforts.
Are there any specific rules for how this stipend must be spent?
No. Your municipality, state-recognized tribe, or eligible non-profit organization must plan some type of publicly available 250th programming, but there are no specific rules on how this money must be spent. Please refer to the stipend application for additional requirements of accepting the stipend.
How do I add my event or program to 250inCT.com?
The webinar and resources available on this page detail how to apply for a partner account via CTVisit.com and add your events to the CT250 segment of the website. Also included on the linked page is contact information for specific questions.
How do I know if my municipality is eligible to receive a stipend?
Start by checking this map to confirm your municipality has provided a contact person to the America 250 | CT Commission. If it has not, contact info@ct250.org for more information.
My municipality or municipal committee is also an affiliate of the commission. May we apply for both the municipal and affiliate stipends?
In most cases, no. Each municipality and/or affiliate is eligible to receive only one stipend. Please reach out to info@ct250.org if you have any questions about your particular situation.
My non-profit has been tasked with managing or municipality's commemoration. Are we eligible to receive the municipal stipend?
This is at the discretion of the municipality. If they wish to authorize your non-profit to receive the municipal stipend on their behalf, they are welcome to do so. Please note that your non-profit may only receive one stipend, so in this instance would not be eligible to also receive the affiliate stipend. Please reach out to info@ct250.org if you have any questions about your particular situation.
My organization is an affiliate of the commission, and is also a department of my municipality. Should we apply for the municipal stipend?
Each municipality is only eligible to receive one $750 stipend. It is under the discretion of your city or town’s leadership which department should apply for/receive the funds. In many municipalities, this may mean that the department tasked with planning for the 250th should apply directly for the stipend. In other municipalities, there may be a different process. The $750 stipend will only be paid to each municipality once. If conflicting applications are received, a member of our team will reach out to clarify.
My organization is an affiliate of the commission, and is also a department of my municipality. Are we eligible for the $500 affiliate stipend?
In most cases, no. Each municipality and/or affiliate is eligible to receive only one stipend. However, if a library or another affiliate organization has its own non-profit to raise funds, we will consider it a separate organization. Please reach out to info@ct250.org if you have any questions about your particular situation.
We are not a municipality, state-recognized tribe, or 501(c)(3) organization. Are we eligible to receive a stipend?
Unfortunately, no. Only municipalities, state-recognized tribes, and 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to receive these stipends.
Why are affiliates eligible to receive $500, but municipalities are eligible to receive $750?
The commission values the work that all affiliates, municipalities, and other 250th planners are doing around the state. Municipalities have been asked to participate in statewide activities and to share information with the commission on a much more extensive basis – this is the commission’s way of recognizing that additional burden.
