America 250 | CT Themes

The commission has established four themes which organizations may use to plan events & programs for the 250th. These themes allow for programming beyond the Revolutionary War period, and encourage organizations to explore how the ideals of the Declaration of Independence have shaped our history.

Tell Inclusive Stories

Use this commemoration to find stories that were previously untold or under-told, so all of Connecticut’s residents can see themselves reflected in the 250+ year history of our nation.

Power of Place

Use this commemoration to embrace the unique identities and contributions of communities throughout Connecticut, before, during, and after the Revolutionary period.

Doing History

Use this commemoration to explore the history of Connecticut’s role in the development of the nation—its people, sites, and historic context.

For the Common Good

Use this commemoration to embrace civic engagement and continue the work of shaping our communities, state, and nation around the democratic ideals outlined in our founding documents.
